TASTE OF THE SOUTH SELECTS NORTH CAROLINA’S CANCER SERVICES AS 2008 FEATURED CHARITY

WASHINGTON, DC: Taste of the South (TOTS), a Washington, D.C. based charity organization, today announced the selection of North Carolina’s Cancer Services, Inc., located in Winston-Salem, as this year’s featured charity. The event, taking place May 17 at the Washington, D.C. Armory, marks the 26th anniversary for the spring gala, which has risen over $3 million for Southern charities over the years.
“Taste of the South is a committed and focused committee of 44 volunteers dedicated to supporting worthwhile charitable initiatives throughout the South – all while remembering their roots and having a good time,” said Jenny Sheffield, 2008 TOTS Chairman. “I am honored to be a part of this special organization.”
The featured charity, North Carolina’s Cancer Services, Inc., provides support for patients of all kinds of cancer and their families through medication assistance, home health supplies, wellness groups, educational programs, transportation assistance and more.

O’Brien, CEO, North Carolina’s Cancer Services, Inc. “These funds will make a tremendous impact on the capacity of Cancer Services in our mission to enhance the quality of life for those living with cancer and to provide the gift of life through education.”
To add special southern flair, the VIP suite will feature Guest Chef Marc-Jean Berruet of The Pearl restaurant which is located on the North Carolina Outer Banks in Kill Devil Hills. Chef Berruet will prepare fresh seafood from the Outer Banks with a French twist.
Taste of the South is privileged to have an Honorary Host Committee consisting of the Members of Congress from 13 Southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Each state committee sponsors a table featuring regional cuisine and specialty products donated from home-state venders and organizations. A portion of the proceeds will also be given to various other charities selected by each of the participating states.
Additionally, a smaller portion of this year’s proceeds will go to the Armed Forces Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based charity committed to serving members of our Armed Services during their greatest time of need The foundation provides financial assistance to the families of injured soldiers, organizes recreational trips for hospitalized soldiers and offers housing assistance when a solider returns home.
